Members of the Founding Advisory Board with 2015 Scholar-in-Residence Justice Richard Goldstone and keynote speaker Kofi Annan at the opening of the Center
In his memoir, Counselor, Ted Sorensen said that he wanted to be remembered as “a servant of peace and justice.” After his death in 2010, CUNY Law School’s Board of Visitors Chair and former law partner of Ted’s, Steve Rosenfeld, suggested that a lasting tribute to Ted be developed at CUNY Law. With the support and enthusiasm of Gillian and Juliet Sorensen, Dean Michelle Anderson formed a Founding Advisory Board to provide guidance and insight. A proposal was developed to establish a Center for International Peace and Justice and fundraising commenced to name it after Ted Sorensen. Building on CUNY Law’s decades-long tradition of practicing “law in the service of human needs,” the first-named center was established with Camille Massey, an Advisory Board member, CUNY Law alumna, and friend and mentee of Ted Sorensen’s, as Founding Executive Director.
