Critical Voices: A Conversation with Barbara Lee
March 22, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
| FreeThe Sorensen Center is delighted to welcome Congresswoman Barbara Lee to CUNY School of Law as part of our “Critical Voices: From Local to Global” speaker series. This event, which will explore her leadership and courageous stances, is moderated by CUNY TV’s “Black America” host and ERA champion, Carol Jenkins.
Congresswoman Lee is a lifelong civil rights advocate. She has served California’s 13th District (now 12th District) since 1998 in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and a Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operation where she works to advance international peace, diplomacy, and human rights. She was a fierce critic of the Iraq War and the only Congressperson to vote against the authorization of force following the September 11 attacks; she continues to work with other members of Congress to repeal the authorizations. The Congresswoman is a long-term advocate for racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, economic justice, abortion rights, cannabis justice, and abolition of the death penalty.
The Sorensen Center’s “Critical Voices: From Local to Global” speaker series features extraordinary leaders from around the world discussing groundbreaking issues.
