The Sorensen Center for International Peace and Justice is in solidarity with CUNY Law’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA), the whole CUNY Law community, and the Black Lives Matter movement across the country and globally in the fight for racial justice.

We condemn state-sanctioned violence and demand accountability for the unconscionable killings of Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and every victim of anti-Black and anti-LGBT+ violence.

COVID-19 has brought greater attention to structural racism and inequalities in healthcare, education, housing, employment, voting, and the criminal justice system. We must accelerate our work to eradicate racial injustice.

There are numerous paths that must be walked simultaneously to undo centuries of racial oppression in the United States. The Sorensen Center joins critical efforts to advocate for free and fair elections, recognizing the importance of November 3, 2020 when all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, 35 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate, and the office of the President will be contested, along with numerous state and local offices.

This is a moment to be our best selves as a people and recommit to a worldwide movement for justice and peace, starting at home.
