OUR MISSION

The Sorensen Center’s mission is to train social justice lawyers to work from local to global and protect rights of those affected by instability, conflict, and repression. As the first-named center at CUNY School of Law, the Sorensen Center builds on and enhances the Law School’s decades-long tradition of practicing law in the service of human needs.

Through dynamic programming, global fellowships, Scholar-in-Residence lectures, and more, the Sorensen Center equips students with international experience and expertise to become leaders in the legal field. Read about our initiatives >

Our Team

From Our Founding Executive Director

With an optimistic spirit and ambitious start-up energy, the Sorensen Center at CUNY Law School invests in the next generation – or, in the words of young social justice lawyers-in-training: “THIS GENERATION.” The Center’s “Critical Voices” speaker series, Comparative Law Program, Justice Through Art Initiative, and globally renowned Scholars-in-Residence educate, inspire, and motivate students to become transformative leaders.

The Sorensen Center, named after Ted Sorensen, has become a vibrant physical and intellectual hub of thoughtful exchange and democratic action. Our Fellows work in communities in need across all five boroughs, around the U.S. and the world — sharing lessons from local to global. Through collaborations with a growing and impressive range of partners, we are responding to the increasing needs in our local communities and connected global communities.

We hope you’ll join us.
